Environmental aspects

Installations for hydroelectric energy are listed under Annex II oft he European EIA Directive. The Austrian competent authorities assessed the project and concluded that it did not to require an environmental impact assessment. The project was screened-out on the basis that it does not involve the construction of a dam; concerns a closed-loop water system; that its components are largely underground or located on an existing industrial site; and that clearances of further areas were deemed non-sensitive. The screening and the permit procedures performed also led to the conclusion that no significant impacts on nature conservation areas and the environment can be expected.

Procurement

The European Commission has exempted the generation of electricity in Austria from public procurement provisions by Decision 2008/585/EC. The Bank will review the project´s procurement procedures to ensure that its funds are used appropriately for the purchase of works, goods and services at competitive prices an in the best interest of the project.
