The project is a 30-year PPP to design, build, finance and operate a 38.5 km expressway.
The new road will follow the corridor of the existing A-308 between A-44 expressway (in Iznalloz) and A-92 expressway (in Darro) and aims to become an effective link by-passing Granada, between the south-eastern area of Spain and the main road link to Madrid and central Spain.

Environmental aspectsThe project is part of the transport plan for Andalucia 2007-2013, which was subject to a SEA, and falls under Annex I of EIA Directive (an EIA is mandatory). The Bank has received the Environmental Impact Statement for the project. The project will impact two Natura 2000 sites: (ES6140007 and ES6140006). Compliance with EU SEA (2001/42/EC), EIA (85/337/EEC, as amended), Habitats (92/43/EEC) and Birds Directives (79/409/EEC), will be verified during appraisal.
The project is being procured as a PPP, through an international open tender procedure with publication in the EU Official Journal. The concessionaire will be responsible to design, build, finance and maintain the investment under a 30-year term service contract. The contract was awarded to an Iridium-led consortium on May 25th 2011.
