    Promoter – Financial Intermediary

    Danisco A/S

    Location

    Description

The project concerns the promoter’s corporate RDI programme related to novel and innovative products and processes primarily within the following fields: (i) biotechnology, (ii) green chemicals and fuel production from biomass, (iii) health and nutrition, and (iv) food service and application, starting in 2010 and finishing in 2013.

    Objectives

The R&D investments focus on improving current products and processes as well as developing new business opportunities.

    Comments

The project will be financed through the Risk Sharing Finance Facility (RSFF), which is an innovative credit risk sharing scheme jointly set up by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank to improve access to debt financing for private companies or public institutions promoting activities with a higher financial risk profile in the fields of research, technological development, demonstration and innovation investments.

    Sector(s)

    Proposed EIB finance (Approximate amount)

    EUR 120 million.

    Total cost (Approximate amount)

    EUR 350 million.

    Environmental aspects

The RDI activities defined within in the proposed project will not change the current RDI practices and will be carried out within existing research centres or operative facilities without significantly adding to their environmental load. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) should therefore not be required by EU Directive 85/337 amended by 97/11. Full environmental details will be assessed during the appraisal as will compliance of the RDI activities with relevant EU legislation.

    Procurement

The promoter is a private company not operating in the Utilities sector, and is thus not covered by EU Directives on procurement. The promoter has sound procedures for procuring specialised equipment and external services and the R&D activities are carried out by internal research staff hence they are expected to be entirely appropriate to the industry and satisfactory to the Bank.
