The project concerns the establishment and ramp-up of a photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing plant in Catania, Sicily, with annual production capacity of 480 MWp in PV modules.
Objectives
The project aims to contribute to the cost reduction in the solar photo-voltaic industry, to the development of renewable energies in the EU and, indirectly, to the EU’s policy objectives on climate change.

Environmental aspects
Production of semiconductors, which include Silicon-based solar cells, is not listed in EIA directive 97/11 and the project will be carried out in existing industrial facilities already authorized. Therefore it is unlikely that the competent authority requires an EIA. However, all the environmental related issues will be assessed during the appraisal.
