Description
The project consists of two components : development of the solid waste management system and rehabilitation of the district heating system.
Objectives
The rehabilitation and construction of new cells at the existing solid waste landfill Ramici is aiming at remediation of the existing dumpsite, and expansion of waste management capacity. The renovation of Banja Luka’s district heating system has the objective to improve operating efficiency by reducing losses.

Environmental aspects
The landfill component of the project is environmentally driven and intends to improve solid waste disposal practices in Banja Luka and the surrounding area by disposing of non-hazardous waste in one central, sanitary landfill. Renovation of the district heating system has potential environmental benefits due to increased energy efficiency and reduction in CO2 and other atmospheric emissions.

Procurement procedures will be consistent with the Bank’s Guidelines to Procurement.
