Novastar Ventures East Africa Fund invests in early stage businesses led by entrepreneurs with the ambition to transform low-income consumer markets and alleviate severe social issues, by deploying innovative business models with the potential of growing rapidly, notably by widening access, improving quality and/or lowering costs of basic services or goods in East Africa. With the overarching objective of fighting poverty, the Fund's priority sectors are education, healthcare, small agri-businesses, and access to food, water and critical information.
At target size of $80m, the Fund has built a portfolio of minority equity interests in 15 buusinesses with investments in the USD 0.2 to USD 7m range through mulitple capital rounds.
Over its life time, the Fund targets that at least 2 million individuals from low income households will benefit directly from the activities of the Fund’s investee companies.
