The EIB and microfinance outside the European Union

As a major player in financing and supporting the development of a sustainable and responsible microfinance sector worldwide, we help to create jobs and address local needs and gaps in the supply of financial services.

Outside the EU, we are active across the sub-Saharan Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) regions as well as in the Mediterranean partner countries. Our funding commitments in sub-Saharan Africa and in North Africa and the Middle East reached EUR 232 million as of June 2012.
