European Investment Bank financing in Asia and Latin America

During its 15 years’ experience in ALA, the EIB has financed major projects of mutual interest to the EU and the countries of Asia and Latin America in sectors as diverse as energy, industry, telecoms, transport, water and sanitation. The Bank has also contributed to international and EU efforts to alleviate the impact of natural disasters in those regions.

In December 2006, the EU Council granted the EIB a new mandate to lend in ALA over the period 2007-2013 with an overall ceiling of EUR 3.8 billion. This represents a substantial increase of 53% compared to the previous mandate, reflecting the strategic importance that Asia and Latin America have for the EU.
