The EIB: Supporting sustainable waste management

The EIB's mission is to support the implementation of EU policy in the solid waste management sector in a coherent manner. The Bank's activities in the sector comprise policy support for the avoidance and re-use of waste, and capital investment in facilities for treating the residual waste remaining after upstream recycling, such as incineration plants with energy recovery and mechanical biological treatment plants, facilities for treating separately collected waste streams, such as composting, anaerobic digestion and materials recovery facilities, and also landfills.
