The European Investment Bank confirms its full commitment to supporting public and private sector investment in Greece. This includes, contrary to recent media reports, financing investment by small and medium-sized companies through local intermediaries. At present EIB loan disbursements in Greece continue and are not influenced by any factors, other than administrative and contractual circumstances specific to each deal, and the systems and mechanisms which underpin them.

The EIB has demonstrated significant support for investment in Greece in recent years. Over the last 5 years the EIB has provided EUR 7.7 billion for a range of viable projects that have created jobs and supported economic activity during challenging times.  The figure since 2008, when the crisis began, is in excess of EUR 11 billion.

The broad diversity of investment supported by the EIB in Greece includes education, energy, transport, telecoms, water and urban development projects, as well as investment by Greek SMEs.
