The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted to Acciona a loan in the amount of EUR 120 million in support of research, development and innovation (RDI) activities. Magdalena Álvarez Arza (EIB Vice-President), and Carlos Arilla de Juana (Economic and Financial Director General of Acciona), have today signed in Madrid the corresponding financing contract.

The investments anticipated under the EIB loan will support the research, development and innovation programme that is aimed specifically at strategic sectors for the company such as renewable energy, infrastructures, and the treatment of water. The project will have as its objectives, inter alia, improving the energy efficiency of products and processes and optimizing the generation of renewable energy in biomass, wind and solar power activities.

The activities that will be covered by the loan will be implemented at Acciona’s technological centres located in Madrid, Pamplona and Barcelona during the period 2013-2016. These activities will be carried out in cooperation with research centres and institutes, both at the national and international levels.

Through the financing of these investments in research, development and innovation, the EIB funds will contribute to developing and expanding the pool of expertise while supporting sustainable growth and employment and ultimately enhancing the competitiveness of the economy.

The investments carried out under this operation meet the most important objectives of the EIB and the European Union, in particular the Knowledge-Based Economy, by promoting the technological capacity of companies, both with regard to energy and Climate Action.
