Following the recent changes in the Finnish government, Mr Petteri ORPO has been appointed Minister of Finance on 22 June 2016. He also becomes EIB Governor for the Republic of Finland, succeeding Mr Alexander STUBB. 

Before his current appointment, Mr ORPO served as Minister of the Interior from 29 May 2015 to 22 June 2016 and as Minister of Agriculture and Forestry from 24 June 2014 to 29 May 2015. 

Mr ORPO has held various positions in the National Coalition Party since 1998 and is currently Party Chairman. He has been a Member of the National Parliament since 2007. 

Mr ORPO has also held various positions on the Regional Council of Southwest Finland, notably as Chairman from 2012 to 2014. 

From 1997 to 2000 and 2005 to the present, Mr ORPO has served as a Member of the Turku City Council. He also served as a Member of the Turku City Executive between 1999 and 2002 and from 2005 to 2007. 

Between 2002 and 2003, Mr ORPO worked as a Special Adviser in the Ministry of the Interior. 

Mr ORPO was born in 1969. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Turku.
