Elena Salgado, new Governor for Spain

Ms Elena Salgado has been appointed Second Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Economy and Finance of Spain as from 7 April 2009, succeeding Mr Pedro Solbes, and thus also becomes EIB Governor for Spain.

Born on 12 May 1949 in Ourense, Ms Salgado graduated as an industrial engineer, specialising in energy, at the Universitat Politècnica de Madrid, and also holds a degree in economic sciences, plus a masters in quantitative management methods.

Before becoming Second Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms Salgado held several high-level positions at the finance and industry ministries.

From 2004 to 2007, Ms Salgado was Health Minister. In July 2007, she moved to take over the Public Administration Ministry.
