60 people attended the EIB’s technical workshop in Amman (Jordan) on Thursday 21, March. Participants discussed with experts dealing with PPPs on a daily basis, in view of the preliminary results of the pre-feasibility study on the Wadi Al Arab water supply PPP project.
The broader issues of PPPs and the water sector in Jordan were discussed in the first session followed by a session on the specific technical, financial and legal findings of the study. This was complemented by a presentation of the As Samra water project – a PPP project already implemented in Jordan – and their lessons learnt from the PPP process. The third session presented how EPEC and AFFI (the Arab financing facility for infrastructure) could support the implementation of PPPs in the country.
Local Jordanian experts working in both the public and the private sectors and the international consultants working on the report participated and, speakers from the European Union delegation, the OECD, the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank, shared their expertise.
The draft report on Wadi Al Arab Project was distributed to participants for their written feedback. Any comments will then be incorporated into the conclusions of this pre-feasibility study which is part of a wider regional FEMIP study presented at the EIB’s conference in Casablanca in May 2011.
