I am not a national of a member country of the European Union, but have an EU work permit. Can I still apply for a vacancy at the EIB?
An EU work permit is not sufficient to be eligible to work for us.
Do you offer temporary or consultant opportunities?
Yes, we do hire temporary staff to cover for short-term absences or temporary increases in workload for certain roles, and use the services of local interim employment agencies for this purpose.
Some areas of the Bank also contract consultants through public calls for tenders, which we publish in the supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union and on our website.
Can I withdraw or delete my application?
We can delete your application and personal data upon request.
If you wish to withdraw your application from a specific job opening or have your data deleted, please complete the online form, indicating your applicant number and the job opening ID and title.
How do I know if you have received my application?
You will receive an electronic acknowledgement on the e-mail address you have provided as soon as your details have been integrated into our database.
Candidates who have submitted an application and received an acknowledgement will be given feedback once their application has been assessed.
Should I send diplomas and certificates when I apply?
We do not require copies of diplomas when you apply for a job, but we will request them at a later stage.
What is the time limit for submitting an application?
Information on our e-recruitment platform is the sole point of reference. Applications are accepted for as long as the vacancy is advertised on this platform. The deadline is midnight on the date specified in the vacancy announcement. Certain specialised sites may also publish advertisements, although the Bank is not responsible for any delays in updating information on these external websites.
Where necessary, additional information (deadline, post not immediately vacant, preliminary campaign, etc.) is included in the advertisement.
Candidate help - contacts
How can I get further assistance for my application?
Given the high number of applications we receive, we may not be able to respond to all individual queries as promptly as we would like. We recommend that you read the information provided on our website carefully. If after this you still have a question related to recruitment or EIB employment matters, you can contact us by completing the online form.
We only accept applications submitted via our online platform.
Please do not send your applications or CVs through the address email@example.com, as we cannot process them. We will only treat messages to this e-mail address regarding employment at the Bank. For any general questions related to the EIB, please contact the InfoDesk.
Candidates who have participated in selection tests may receive feedback from their recruitment contact upon request.
Does the EIB make use of recruitment agencies?
We use recruitment agencies or headhunters only on an exceptional basis. Such companies are contracted through public calls for tenders published in the supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union and on our website.
Pre-employment screening at the EIB
What is pre-employment screening?
Our pre-employment screening is a verification check of your educational, professional and criminal background and consists of two elements:
a self-declaration form completed by you
a pre-employment screening carried out, normally, by an external provider
When will the pre-employment screening take place?
We conduct the pre-employment background check, which is a compulsory part of our selection process, only when you receive a conditional offer.
How does the pre-employment screening work?
You will need to complete the self-declaration and send it to the recruiter who is following your application.
If your self-declaration meets our requirements, we will send your information to our external provider who will contact you for the pre-employment screening. You will then receive an e-mail from our provider with a link to their website where, after giving your consent, you will have access to a web-based questionnaire.
In exceptional circumstances, if we have further questions about your self-declaration, the recruiter managing your application will contact you directly.
Once you have completed the pre-employment screening questionnaire and all checks have been conducted, your results will be securely communicated to us. Please note that this process can take some time, but you can, in the meantime, sign a conditional contract and start working with us.
What about data protection?
The external service providers operate worldwide, and your personal data could therefore be transferred to and possibly stored in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
The service providers will ensure that your personal information receives at least the same level of protection as within the EEA. This includes ensuring that it is kept secure, only used and released in accordance with instructions received from us and for the purposes indicated at the time of collection of the data, or where required by law.
Consent of the concerned candidate?
You will be asked to provide your explicit consent to have your personal data sent, transferred and stored outside of the EEA in order to conduct the pre-employment screening.
