Internal Audit

Catering for audit needs at all levels of management of the EIB Group and acting with the guarantees of independence and of professional standards conferred upon it by its Charter revised in 2001, Internal Audit examines and evaluates the relevance and effectiveness of the internal control systems and the procedures involved.

It is also introducing an internal control framework based on BIS guidelines. Hence, Internal Audit reviews and tests controls in critical banking, information technology and administrative areas over a two to five year cycle.

Under internal procedures to combat fraud, the Head of Internal Audit has authority to conduct enquiries. The Bank may also call upon external assistance or experts in accordance with the requirements of the enquiry, including the services of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).
