Features of STAREBEI

The programme is open to any University located in the EU and providing doctorate cycle degrees recognised by the Bologna process. It supports University researchers for periods between 6 months and 1 year. The period is defined on a case-by-case basis in order to fulfil both the needs of the researcher and the requirements of the project.

The stage is channelled through the University and involves some presence on the Bank's premises. This presence will be tailored to the needs of the researcher, but should involve a minimum of 10% of the working days being spent in the EIB to ensure that the work develops as expected. The remainder of the working time should essentially be spent at the University centre.

Whilst Universities must be EU-based, there are no constraints on the nationality of the researcher proposed by the University, provided that they have the proper status.

The calendar of the stage must be established before the STAREBEI agreement is signed. It should be flexible, as some Universities have established stage requirements with a minimum length of in-house training for their students to qualify for a doctorate cycle degree. In other cases, the researcher needs to carry out his/her research, notably on development and data collection, on the Bank's premises.

STAREBEI will also finance certain expenditure linked to the research and, in particular, necessary travel expenditure both for the researcher and his/her tutor at the University.
