Extension of first round of public consultation on EIB's Environmental and Social Statement

Given the importance of the Environmental and Social Statement and considering the flexibility that the EIB applies in public consultation, the Bank will extend the first round of consultation from 28 May until 20 June 2008. This will include a second consultation meeting in Warsaw on 12 June.

The Environmental and Social Statement is published on the Bank's website for stakeholder comments.

Procedures for submissions

  1. Organisation and individuals wishing to submit suggestions or comments on the EIB Environmental and Social Statement are asked to do so before 20 June 2008. Contributions should be sent in writing to infopol@eib.org, by fax to +352 4379 62000, or by post to European Investment Bank, Communication Department, Yasmine Khayat, 100 Boulevard Konrad Adenauer, L-2950 Luxembourg.
  2. Submission can be drawn up in any of the official languages of the European Union. The Bank will acknowledge receipt of all contributions.
  3. Organisations presenting a submission are requested to provide the name and address of their organisation with a contact name and a brief description of their objectives.
  4. Individual members of the public are requested to provide their full name and address, and, optionally, a brief explanation of their interest in EIB activities and/or the Environmental and Social Statement.
  5. The EIB will hold public consultation meetings in Brussels on 14 May 2008 and in Warsaw on 12 June to discuss with external stakeholders the Environmental and Social Statement. The Bank welcomes suggestions for other stakeholder meetings.
  6. After completion of the consultation process, stakeholders who contributed will be directly informed of the outcome.

Before the year-endEIB Management Committee's approval of the final draft of the Statement and Consultation Report; - the draft Statement published, for information, on the EIB website three weeks prior to consideration by the EIB Board of Directors; - the draft Statement and Consultation Report presented to EIB Board of Directors; - After Board approval, publication of the Statement and Consultation Report on the EIB website.

Today's announcement supersedes the announcement of 25 March 2008 on public consultation on the Environmental and Social Statement.
