Extension of 2nd round of public consultation on EIB's Environmental and Social Statement

Given the importance of the Environmental and Social Statement and taking into consideration stakeholder suggestions, the EIB has extended the second round of consultation from 30 October until 17 November 2008. The extension is in line with the Bank’s flexible approach towards public consultation in terms of timetable and procedures, allowing it during the process to favourably consider suggestions and requests from stakeholders and to improve the process.

The Draft II of Environmental and Social Statement is published on the Bank's website for stakeholder comments.

Comments should be forwarded in writing by e-mail to infopol@eib.org by 17 November 2008.

Timetable of the next steps in the consultation process:

2 October

Launch of the second round of public consultation.

27 October

Public consultation meeting in Brussels.

17 November

Completion of the 2nd round of consultation and deadline for submitting comments.

December 2008- Q1-2009
  • Review Panel’s evaluation of stakeholder contributions;
  • EIB Management Committee's approval of the final draft of the Statement and Consultation Report;
  • the draft Statement published, for information, on the EIB website three weeks prior to consideration by the EIB Board of Directors, together with the stakeholder contributions and Bank’s reasoned comments, as well as a draft Consultation Report;
  • the draft Statement and Consultation Report presented to EIB Board of Directors;
  • after Board approval, publication of the Statement and Consultation Report on the EIB website and publication of the Statement in the Official Journal of the European Communities.

Today's announcement supersedes the announcement of 2 October 2008 on public consultation on the Environmental and Social Statement.
