Background

As part of its dialogue with civil society, the EIB organized a Workshop for NGOs in Warsaw on 2 July 2004. The Warsaw Workshop followed the one in Marseille on 31 October 2003 as part of a series of regionally organized meetings with NGOs. The one-day Workshops, taking place in principle twice a year, provide EIB staff and NGOs with a platform to discuss topics for common interest and to learn about each others objectives and activities.

Programme

The agenda of the Workshop was drawn up in co-operation with interested NGOs. EIB and NGOs both delivered presentations. The Workshop was chaired by EIB Vice-President Peter Sedgwick, Member of the Bank's Management Committee with responsibility for EIB's relations with NGOs. Jacek Tomorowicz, Director for Poland in the EIB Board of Directors, delivered an address on cooperation between Poland and the EIB. In addition to the plenary meeting, EIB staff and NGO representatives held informal bilateral talks.

Participants

Participants totalled 55 people, including some 35 delegates from civil society organisations from various sectors. There were also observers from EU and other international organisations, as well as the Finance Ministries of some new EU Member States.

More details on the Warsaw Workshop can be obtained from Yvonne Berghorst (y.berghorst@eib.org). Paper copies of presentations can be ordered by e-mail or fax (N° +352 4379 3191).

An announcement of the next EIB-NGO Workshop will be advertised on the EIB website in due course for interested NGOs to register and to contribute to the agenda.
