The European Parliament

Over the years, the Bank has intensified the established policy dialogue with the European Parliament to the mutual benefit of the institutions.

This dialogue primarily takes the form of discussions of the EIB's activity in support of the Union's objectives. Occurring at various levels (plenary, committee and individual MEPs), it enables the elected representatives of the Union's citizens to incorporate EIB activity into the discharge of their legislative, budgetary and political responsibilities, thereby making for greater consistency of all Union initiatives.

The European Parliament's legislative responsibilities apply to many areas which are relevant to EIB operational objectives and priorities, such as: internal market, regional development, technological research and development, the environment, education, health, Trans-European network infrastructure, accession of new Member States or association agreements with Third Countries.
