The EIB purchases electricity originating 100% from renewable sources (hydropower, wind power and biomass).
Other measures being implemented with the aim of reducing direct emissions relate mainly to:
• encouraging the use of public or clean transport;
• reducing levels of energy consumption; and
• better waste and recyclables management.

In order to ensure that the targets are met, the Bank is closely monitoring the development of emission levels and remedial action is taken as necessary.
An internal communication plan to raise staff awareness on environmental issues, the impact of climate change and the importance of the measures being developed.IT server consolidation and virtualisation also resulted in reduced energy requirements in the data centres.
