In accordance with Article 4 of the EIB’s Statute, the capital of the Bank is subscribed by the Member States. Since 1 April 2009, the Bank’s subscribed capital has amounted to more than EUR 232bn. The capital paid in by the shareholders is 5% of the subscribed capital (EUR 11.6bn). The Bank is authorised to lend more than its own funds and therefore raises additional resources from capital markets.
In certain cases it may be entrusted with further funds from Member States and/or the EU budget to implement activities supporting EU policy goals.
