In the most general sense, the EIB’s core business is to support projects that promote economic and social development as defined by EU policies. The extent to which social benefits are central to project objectives, however, tends to vary significantly between sectors. Infrastructure in general, which is supported by more than half of EIB lending, delivers major social benefits when it is well designed and adapted to demand. Further key sectors to be especially highlighted in that context are: social housing, education, public transport and health.  Social benefit is however an integral element of all projects supported.
